Our Story

1901

On 1st January 1901, Lala Dharampal, the founding father of firm – Dharampal Premchand Ltd. is born. The firm made a small beginning and with his integrity, hard work, farsightedness and single-mindedness laid the strong foundation of the firm.

1922

On 30th August 1922, Lala Premchand is born. He joined the family business in 1950 and started Administering, all commercial activity. With the formation of the company in 1972, he became its Chairman & Managaing Director. His guidance and involvement, lifelong service and selfless devotion to the business is the cornerstone on which it stands today.

1929

On 14th August a shop is setup in Chandni Chowk.

1929

On the same day, 14th August, Shri Satyapalji is born. This date is also celebrated as the group’s founding day.

1935

On 8th December a fire in the shop destroys majority of the stocks, giving Lala Dharampal a major setback.

1943-45

A vast range of premium natural oils, Ittars, talcum and face powders are introduced. For the first time, the firm introduces labeling and packaging of the products.

1946

Chewing Tobacco is launched.

1946

Zafrani Patti 120 launches. The firm adds flavoured betel nut and scented cardamom to its portfolio with the numbers 80, 48, 32 and 18.

1948

In 1948, Shri Satyapalji Joins the business, starts in-house blending and processing of the perfumery compounds. He is responsible for evolving and maintaining the high quality of all the company’s products, as you know them today.

1950

Qiwam is launched.

1954

The firm introduces packaging in square tins. The tins not only provide better protection to the product, they are also easier for consumers to carry.

1955-57

Pan Vivahar, the firm’s first branded pan masala, launches. The firm also introduces various varieties of pan chatnis.

1958

BABA, the group's first flagship brand, launches.

1960

Rashmi Zarda is launched.

1963

In 1963, BABA logo gets registered.

1970

Baba entered into the Export Business.

1972

On April 6, 1972 the firm is incorporated as a private limited company.

1973

Zafrani zarda manufacturers come together for the first time to form a Zafrani Zarda Manufacturers Association under the leadership of Shri Satyapal Ji. He holds the post of founder president of the association till his death.

1974

Godowns are shifted from Chandni Chowk to the Wazirpur area, leading to the consolidation of various activities that earlier took place from different locations, improving the operational efficiency of the company.
